March 27, 2003
...Around midnight on March 26,
hundreds of meteorites rained on the Chicago suburbs of Park Forest
and Olympia Fields, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) southwest of downtown.
The larger meteorites punched holes in roofs and dented cars. One meteorite embedded
itself in the Park Forest fire station. more >>
I had just left your mom and dad's house. I had no plans for sleeping.
Your mom was getting ready to be in the pool so your mom could be more
comfortable. I was looking for a good cup of coffee and saw that Dunkin
Donuts was open. I pulled up to the window and just as the woman came
to the window and asked what I wanted there was an incredible bright
flash!!! The whole sky lit up from EVERYWHERE. She said it was behind
me (towards Chicago) and I thought it was from the Southwest .. the
direction I was facing. I said, to no one in particular, "What was
that?" She said, "I don't know". I got my coffee and drove off.
When I pulled into the driveway Sara was standing at the bottom of
the driveway, crying and looking very scared.
