My favorite quote. period.
A point in every direction is the same thing as no point at all.

QUOTE:
One must always maintain one's connection to the past and yet ceaselessly pull away from it.

Aunt Rosie moved from Colorado to Texas where she spent her last years near her sister, Hazel. In early September my cousin Brad (from North Carolina) and the Sisters (from Ohio, Louisiana, Texas) stopped by Chicago to pick me up on the way to Colorado with her ashes. We stayed with a fourth sister, Aunt Gerry, where we had a service for Aunt Rosie. These photos were taken that early September weekend at Aunt Gerry's near Pike's Peak outside Denver. There are two paintings in this video. The blue mountain was painted by my dad, the other was painted by Gerry's mother-in-law -- both reflecting Colorado's Pike's Peak.
"Every Season" is a song by Nicole Nordeman. Nicole's album got me through a very stressful time. Putting these photos together to the music also helped to heal my soul. I think that even if you don't know the people in the photographs, you can appreciate and be aware of the passages and seasons of your own life in a strong way when you view it. What do you think?
Check back for Video. Wouldn't work with YouTube.

Spring 2005, Sara, Rhiannon, Colin, Maggie, Jaynie and I went to the Lincoln Park Zoo. While there we took this photo (along with 300+ others) of an elephant. I decided to use the photo to illustrate the poem, "The Blind Men and the Elephant" (just one site I found with the poem), using the free program photostory. Were you familiar with the poem before hearing it here? Yes. No.

I am sad to report that several days after this photo was taken, Wankie died.

Several years ago, I had the privilege of being able to attend a Workshop at a Writer's Conference at Kent State, led by Sara Holbrook. She performed "Chicks Up Front" as well as several other of her poems. What an incredible experience! Actually, I was moved to tears .. nearly bawling out loud.

Not just her poetry, but her performance of them, touched me at a very deep emotional level. I can't say why I cried throughout her whole performance. I just did. I'm sure she wondered as well.

I own several of her books and enjoy all of them, but must say I never successfully get through, "Chicks Up Front" without crying. hmmmm. Who is your favorite poet or which is your favorite poem?

The video on the left speaks for itself. Don't you think?

Sort of ties in with the elephant story, doesn't i? As the man said on the other link on this page:
" It is a good warning about how our sensory perceptions can lead to misinterpretations."

The traditional wedding dance of the Mother and Son, found Erich and Donna dancing to "Autumn Leaves".

"Autumn Leaves" was Erich's parents favorite song.

Mine, too.
